I feel like this book deserves a 3 out of 5 stars. I did not enjoy the plot of this book too much because it is very similar to The Velveteen Rabbit by Margery Williams. This book is about a child's toy, which is his best friend, that gets lost on Christmas Eve. I would recommend reading The Velveteen Rabbit instead because it is much better quality and content wise. I do think that this book would be better if it was written with deeper vocabulary. I also feel like there were parts of the plot that seemed forced, but it had a good message overall about friendship and love.
I am not recommending this book because The Velveteen Rabbit is much better in content and story. This one has great messages though. The author has a deep voice and seems to be well educated, but this book is for little kids so I would not know.
Before you read it have your child listen to the audio or watch the video of "The Velveteen Rabbit" because they are going to get very confused with what happens in this story if they haven't seen the other one first.
I give this book a rating of three out of five stars because it was not bad, but could have been written with better vocabulary and more depth to the plot. I would recommend The Velveteen Rabbit over this book though for children who are looking for something similar in quality. This is definitely my least favorite Christmas themed book because it is closely related to "The Velveteen Rabbit" and has a very similar plot. I would recommend other Christmas themed books over this one for children, but if you are looking for something close in quality then The Velveteen Rabbit is the best option that I have read so far.
